#召唤陪练狮# Macfarlane notes that even though 17th-century Japan had large cities, high literacy rates, even a futures market, it had turned its back on the essence of any work-based revolution by giving up labour-saving devices such as animals, afraid that they would put people out of work.
尤其是turned its back是什么意思?

turn one's back on 是“抛弃、背弃;拒绝”的意思。 The company has turned its back on customers.
