Imagine that you are in a classroom or a meeting. The teacher or the meeting leader says something incorrect. In your opinion, which of the following is the best thing to do? 1. Interrupt and correct the mistake right away; 2. Wait until the class or meeting is over and the people are gone, and then talk to the teacher or meeting leader; 3. Say nothing.
Nobody in our world is always able to avoid making mistake. No matter how successful or powerful they are, saying something incorrect is a common phenomenon. Nevertheless, how should we react when some respectable people like the teacher or leader says something wrong?
Some people believe that it is better to interrupt and correct the mistake right away. In the contrast, from my prospective, waiting until the class or meeting is over and people are gone and then talking to them is more preferable. I am going to elaborate my point of view by the following statements.
To begin with, this sort of behavior can maintain the authority of the speaker, like leader and the teacher. As is known to all, the opinions of teacher and leader are usually deeply trusted by the listener. Since both of them are noble professions that shape others characters and future. If we interrupt and correct immediately, listeners will hold the view that they are not reliable and knowledgable, although the mistakes is tiny. For instance, my college professor Zoe is a really resourceful man, just because of a mistake he made at a seminar which was pointed out by students. A majority of students in his class have a little misundersdanding about him.
Moreover, this reaction won't disrupt speaker's line of thinking. I consider that everyone hates to be interpreted during a speech or other kind of thing. When we are talking, we have to devote ourselves to the topic. However, sudden disruption and correct may easily result in forgetfulness about what we are talking before. Taking my math teacher as an example, when he demonstrates a solution of a math problem on the blackboard, if someone points out an unimportant mistake during the process. It is more easily for teacher to make mistakes during the next mathematical calculations because he has to focus on the solution again.
Admittedly, correct the wrong things right away can effectively prevent misleading listeners. However, some mistakes are so tiny that others hardly pay attention to. Even though, some are mistakes in principle that you have to say but after you talk to a leader or a teacher, they will have opportunity to make them up.
To put it into a nutshell, allowing others to finish their speaking is an expression of respect and politeness. It is better for us to wait until the class or meeting is over and the people are gone, and then talk to the teacher or meeting leader.
