For quite a long time, people do not regard dinosaurs as endotherms. But these days new evidence is found and thus the writer believes that they are actually endotherms. However , the professor gives us an opposite opinion.

Firstly, depending on the discovery of dinosaur fossils in polar area, the writer claims dinosaurs were endotherms because only animals with body temperature higher than that of surrounding environment can be alive in that extreme cold place. Conversely ,the professor argues that the polar region that time was warmer than today and that was enough for animals that are not endotherms to live. When it became cold, dinosaurs could have migrate to warmer places or hibernated like what other reptiles did.

Secondly, in the writer's perspective, dinosaurs had their legs underneath their body for the sake of being easy to move and endotherms had the same characteristic. Nevertheless, it is unnecessary to explain like that from the professor's view because having legs under their body may support more weight and it's helpful for the dinosaur to grow a larger-size body. Large size meant advantage at that time.

Additionally, the writer confirms the opinion that dinosaurs had Haversian canals which was exactly what endotherms have as their characteristics. But, the professor argues that dinosaurs also had a special part called growth ring, demonstrating that they had a periodic growth pattern from rapid growth to slow or no growth when weather got cold to rapid growth again. This fact is obviously contrast with endotherms that always grow rapidly regardless the cold weather.

Below are two opposite opinions and reasons why scientists asserts them. Firstly, inthe reading passage, the author insists that owing to dinasaurs fossils found in the polar regions, it is likely that dinasaurs are endotherms. Only endotherms that are able to maintain their temperature can be active in cold areas like polar regions. However, other scientists hold the view that this phenomenon can be explained that the temperature in polar regions was muh warmer than today. Environment getting colder, dinasaurs might migrate to other areas. Moreover, another argument lies in the legs position and their movement. The author suggests dinasaurs' legs were under their bodies, rather than at the bodies' side as other reptiles, which proves that dinasaurs are enditherms because their legs position are the same as endotherms. By contrast, other scientists claim the function of their legs was more to support their weight. Thus dinasaurs could grow larger. This assertion appropriately explains the position of dinasaurs' legs. Last but not the least, the author believes dinasaurs were dense with Haversian canals is another evidence to demonstrate they are endotherms. This bone struture gurantees their quick growth that is a characterristic of endotherms. Nevertheless, other scientists refutes this hypothesis by saying that growth rings are the proof of a special growth pattern. That is to say, in a period of time, dinasaurs growed quickly and then their growth became slow or even stopped, which is not a characterristic of endotherms.

Secondly, the author says that the connection between endothermy and position and movement of legs can support his idea. In his opinion, the position and endothermy mode can help dinosaurs’ legs to support physical activity. But the listening part demonstrates that this phenomenon can be explained by another hypothesis, that the leg position is designed for the purpose of undertaking heavy weight. Thirdly, the reading material points out that Connection between endothermy and bone structure can indicate that dinosaurs are endotherm. He notes that Haversian canals is the characteristic of endothermy. The lecturer, by contrast, make it clear that there also be growing rings in dinosaurs’ bone, which is the feature of animals that are not endotherms. It means that the dinosaurs grow slowly or even stop to grow in cold environment.
