First of all, I am a junior student in DMU, majoring in English. To be honest, it was only my fifth choice when I graduated from my high school, but I just find it quite suitable and interesting for me. Though it’s not easy especially when we need to take that language apart to probe into its origin, history, and that phonetics, semantics, syntax etc., I quite enjoy the challenges it presents now.
First of all, as I am still a student, I live in the dormitory building in my university which has 12 storeys altogether, 3 bathrooms on each floor, six or seven vending machines in the lobby and a dorm supervisor on the second floor. In terms of the layout of each dormitory, in most cases, four students share a room and a balcony, each with a table, several closets and a bed above the table as their personal stuff.
First of all, my hometown is in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, which is in the east of China, consists of a small part of the mainland and numerous islands in the East China Sea. Besides, as there is typical island scenery quite different from that of the mainland cities, the fresh seafood and a quick 45-minute boat ride to Shanghai, many tourists pour into my hometown, forcing up the prices.
Well, to be honest, I can not name a book as my favorite, but an impressive book that suddenly pops up in my mind is Chronicle of a Blood Merchant written by a Chinese author Yu Hua, which is a long novel telling the ordinary painstaking life story of the protagonist(leading character) Xu Sanguan about how he passed through various difficulties imposed on him by selling his blood, and how he collapsed when he got old and knew that no one wanted his blood anymore. It depicts ordinary people’s desire to survive in the face of adversity which touched and conquered me.
